CELEBRITY OF THE MONTH
Johannes Friedrich Miescher
172th Birthday (13 August 1844 – 26 August 1895)
Discoverer of Nucleic Acids

Johannes Friedrich Miescher was born in 1844 into a distinguished scientific family in Basel, Switzerland. He was a student of cell metabolism and discoverer of nucleic acids. He discovered a substance containing both phosphorus and nitrogen in the nuclei of white blood cells found in pus. The substance was first named as nuclein because it seemed to come from cell nuclei. After 1874 he separated it into protein and acid components. It is now known as deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). He was one of the earliest researchers to propose and to collect data supporting the hypothesis that it is the carbon dioxide concentration (rather than the oxygen concentration) in the blood that regulates breathing. In 1885 he founded Switzerland’s first physiological institute. He died in 1895, at the age of 51 from tuberculosis (Image: http://i1.wp.com/www.artofthecell.com/).

Determination of antimicrobial and antioxidant activity of methanol and ethyl acetate extracts of Pimpenella Tirupatensis leaves

Ranjit P, Archana Giri

In-vitro antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of Pimpenella Tirupatensis Methanol and Ethyl acetate leaf extracts concentrations ranging from 50 to 150 μg/ml were analyzed on different clinical bacterial strains (Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhimurium, Proteus mirabilis, Bacillus subtilis, and Proteus vulgaris).

Different Dimensional Matrices in Mathematics

Sangeetha S, Deepa R, Seetha R, Usha K

The “Multidimensional Matrices” is an original study of Multiform Matrices is introduced by the author in 2004 in mathematics. It generalizes the concept of the traditional matrix which is in 2 dimensions (columns and rows) and has a plan view as a rectangle to a Multiform matrix that has many dimensions and it can be described in a 2 dimensional plan or 3-dimensional space, its name indicates its form, the Multiform Matrix can have any form in the nature or any geometrical form.

Strong (Weak) Domination in Interval Valued Fuzzy Graph

Sarala N, Kavitha T

Let G =(A,B) be an interval valued fuzzy graph on V and x,yV, We say x dominates y if μ (xy) = min μ (x), μ (y) and μ (xy) =max{μ (x),μ (y)}.A subset S of V is called a strong (weak) dominating set in interval valued fuzzy graph G if every vertex xV-S is strongly (weakly) dominated some vertex y in S.
