Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia in the world, affecting
tens of millions of people. Neuroinflammation is now known to be an important
part of the process of Alzheimer's disease (AD) developing. In the past, it was
thought of as a secondary byproduct of amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaque and tau
neurofibrillary tangle accumulation, but it is now understood to be a central and
early-acting pathological mechanism in AD progression. This review looks at how
the brain and nervous system are affected by inflammation.
